JD vs JD/MBA vs JD/MFIN
I want to be an institutional trader, but I went to law school. After law school, I can pursue three paths. The safest route would be to take the bar and look for work as an in-house attorney since I do not want to wok in a firm or litigate. Second, I could take an additional year and obtain a MBA. Finally, I could take an additional year to obtain a MFIN from Tulane. Ideally, my second or third plan would allow me to land an in-house position, an institutional trader position, or an investment banker position. What should I do? How attractive is a JD/MFIN? Thanks.
How long have you been out of undergrad (how old are you)? Experience before law school?
Yea we need to know more about your background, and more importantly what network you have. If you have no network the MFin/MBA route will open more doors for you, altho it is unnecessary for trading.
I have met a guy on a GS prop desk who was an in house lawyer and managed to network onto the prop desk. However, I would say going into something with this strategy is incredibly risky.
