S&T Training Courses
Hello guys,
I noticed that WSO provided some quality courses on how to ace IB interviews/technicals etc..
However I feel like it's too corporate finance related.
Since I'm interested in S&T and not IBD I was wondering if you knew of a similar service to what WSO is offering but that would apply more for S&T.
That would be great if it could be as cheap and high quality as what can be found on WSO.
Thanks :)
Hi Saltryhard, hope I can help. Do any of these links cover what you're looking for:
You're welcome.
I would be interested as well.
S&T interviews are more market-related. As long as you show an understanding of different market factors as well as how they interconnect, you should be fine. Know the market well enough to voice an opinion and be able to speak to that opinion. I recommend WSJ, The Economist, and Bloomberg News (WSJ and Bloomberg give alerts on your phone similar to ESPN/Bleacher Report so you're kept up to date in a similar fashion as sports news.) As for technicals, know basic finance terminology (P/E ratio, Time Value of Money, etc.) and potentially some deeper knowledge about the product that you're interviewing for (if it's a general interview, have a favorite asset class and be able to speak to why you're more interested in that asset class than others.) Lastly, be prepared for some brainteasers (quick math + logic questions.) Hope this helped!
Thanks man, here in France people are crazy about technicals you can get very technical questions about the greeks, B&S etc... that's kinda annoying cause it can be very large and even being very prepared you can easily get trick questions or just parts you didn't happen to have studied, that's why I made this post and worry about technicals in case I could find more about the kind of questions that are usually given.
No problem lol French banks like BNP Paribas and SocGen are global leaders in the Equity Derivatives space so they can be pretty technical in that aspect, but overall you wouldn't find anything too technical unless it was a desk-specific interview.
For greeks, I would look up Delta, Gamma, Vega, and Theta. Black-Scholes is a little more complicated but know the five parameters that go into Black-Scholes when pricing an option and how you can solve for X as long as you have the other four variables. If you want to go deeper, try understanding the similarities and differences between Black-Scholes and the Binomial Option Pricing Model. This info is light-years beyond anything I've seen an interviewee discuss an interview.
Most importantly, they don't expect you to know everything (technicals can't really be memorized like in IB.) Some S&T products provoke much deeper technical understanding of the product that can take 1-2 years to really get a grasp of. Thus, know when to say "I'm not sure, but I can do some research and get back to you with a better answer." Not aware of any S&T guide similar to the 400 IB questions, but if you have any other questions let me know!
Thanks a lot, I'm a master in finance student so I've studied B&S as well as the binomial model. I guess I'll just train using my courses on derivatives. Thanks :)
