British American Tobacco vs startup?

Finally; got 2 offers
- one from tobacco (think of Philip Morris, British American Tobacco) - Supply Planning Executive with 10% pay rise

  • 2nd from small media/marketing company and now they are expanding towards Data Science Marketing Solutions - Data Science Project Manager with 45% pay rise

I am so afraid of making wrong choice, that 45% pay rise looks very attractive and interesting title as Data Science Project Manager

Goal: to break into MBB, FAANG or strategy positions in huge companies

What do you think will be better choice?

I think we're shifting into a time where the brand name of working for a tobacco company actually does more damage to your rep than good. I'd go for the SME - better pay, better chance of breaking into MBB/strat positions and more interesting work. I don't see the upside in working for the tobacco company at all if I'm honest.

I think so but that's my opinion. I've spent a lot of time in the 'impact investing' space and I know first hand that big tobacco companies are really frowned upon in a lot of circles.

I'd imagine you'd develop a much more well rounded skillset by working for the start up as well, and have more of an impact in developing its strategy - exactly what you want for MBB and FAANG.
