Top Biotech/LS VCs

Who are currently the top biotech/LS-focused venture capital funds?  I know firms like a16z/GC/Sequoia all have biotech/LS groups but wondering who the top funds are that solely do that work.

I’ve seen some names like RA Capital, Third Rock, Perceptive, RTW, Venrock, Orbimed but wondering if that’s still current.

also, what does comp at the top biotech/LS shops tend to look like relative to tech focused VC funds?

Hey ithrowds, I'm the WSO Monkey Bot and I'm here since nobody responded to your thread! Bummer...could just be time of day or unlucky (or the question/topci is too vague or too specific). Maybe one of these topics will help:

Hope that helps.

All of the names listed range from solid to excellent. The best firms, from a performance perspective, and in some cases fundraising perspective as well, are the early stage Cambridge or SF area firms that incubate and start companies. Generally, these groups act as cofounders with a founding team or start the company and bring in a founding team. Thus, they hold ~40% ownership by the Series A and are usually the largest holders through the IPO and eventual acquisition. VCs who do this:

- ARCH

- Atlas

- Column

- Flagship

- Third Rock

You can throw some other names in here (Orbimed, Frazier, NEA) but these are the groups that truly have excelled from a performance perspective and are incredibly hard to access for LPs.
