"2 weeks notice"- why did I have to make the answer so complex?
Hey guys
I think I am a very good interviewer but this time I think I shoot myself in the foot. I would appreciate honest feedback as this is not letting me sleep at night.
I had an interview yesterday that just went great - I don't think I ever had such a good interview. But I think I did a pretty big mistake at the end, when they asked me if we offer you the job tomorrow when could you start (I am currently employed), I said that I would need to give a 2-week notice to my current employer but also I would need to have an answer from the other 2 banks I am interviewing with (I told them before that stage that I am interviewing in the other banks).
I was just trying to be honest and nothing else but now I could see how they could have interpreted that in a different way.
The good part is that after they heard which banks and which sectors they tried to sell me why the bank and sector in their bank would be best for me.
I just hope that it doesn't affect their decision.
What do you guys think?

You'll find out when you get
You'll find out when you get the phone call so there's no point worrying about it
I don't think this is too
I don't think this is too much of a big deal
How do you think they
How do you think they interpreted it differently? If anything, knowing other banks are interested in you might make your profile stronger in their eyes.
You're probably fine --
You're probably fine -- knowing that you're currently employed and also in late stages with other banks shows them that you're probably a desirable employee. Can't tell for sure until you hear back, but I wouldn't worry too much about this.
i wouldn't worry about it...
i wouldn't worry about it... just next time make sure that you have a concise and direct answer of saying "YES". at least in my case, it worked out. Good luck; hopefully you get a call soon.
Thank you guys, now I feel at
Thank you guys, now I feel at ease and hopefully there won't be a 'next time' if you know what I mean :)
Telling the truth is
Telling the truth is honorable and rare in interviewing situations - you took the high road. If they don't want you now, you don't want them.
When I was interviewing with
When I was interviewing with JPM and MS, MS asked me if I got offers from both companies which I would chose. I should have said MS but couldn't say it on the spot... CS asked me the same question as well.
did you get an offer from MS?
did you get an offer from MS?
Could also be a good thing
Could also be a good thing showing you have respect to other employers....
I think it shows high
I think it shows high character. You should be fine.
Just a quick update. I
Just a quick update.
I called and I am definetely top of the list and it sounded I will be called for second round, pretty excited and hopefully it works out as it is my 1st choice :)
actually the honest answer
actually the honest answer would have been "I am going to tell all the other banks I've applied to that I have an offer to try to receive more offers. Then I will bounce salaries back and forth between them tell I feel I have the most I can get. Lastly, I will post on WSO to see which one my internet friends feel is most prestigious and has the best exit ops."
