A question to anyone that has seen the film "empire" and understands i-banking

Is the main character trying to get the drug dealer to act as an institutional investor by purchasing equity in an IPO (or is he really in PCS/PWM)?
If so, that would mean that the main character is an MD, right (if not what position is he)? The guy looks like he is 25/26 maybe 27, isn't that too young to be an MD?
Why does he host a party? Is it for the institutional investors that he plans on selling stock to during the road show?
The reason I ask is because in the description of the film, the main character is referred to as an investment banker, but I thought that investment banker is directly refers to two things1)underwriting debt/equity 2)M&A

Thank you for your responses.

I know that it is just a movie, but I thought understood the function of an i-banker until I saw this flick. This is why I am hoping that someone might me able to clarify a few points that threw me off. I guess if one were to see the film, the questions that I posted would make a little more sense.
