Accenture Strategy Analyst
I'm a rising senior at an ivy interested in applying for Accenture's strategy position. Accenture does not recruit at my school and by looking at its website, it seems like it simply has a management consulting rotational program.
How does this work? Do you first gain acceptance into the rotational program and then get placed into the strategy group? Or can you apply for the strategy practice directly?
From what I know, entry-level analysts do not get aligned to strategy. To be aligned, you must either 1)Be promoted to consultant as an analyst and then request to get into strategy 2) Get an MBA from a top 15 b-school (believe it or not, all strategy consultants I've met from Accenture have great pedigree or 3) Come from industry where you were in a strategy like role previously.
To your question on the rotational program - If hired, you'd get placed into the MCDP (MC Development Program), which actually provides you with a breadth of experience since they place you different types of consultant engagements (think of it as a generalist program). This experience will help you understand (at least at a high-level) how a company works holistically.
For types of engagements, they could place you in projects within supply, organizational design, operations/process improvement, technology, strategy, or they could have you doing business-case development type work. This also really all depends on demand (from clients for a particular type of work) and the length of a project (which is outside of your control).
While it's desirable to be a strategy guy, it's really had to do "strategize" anything without at least a high level understanding of how a company operates, they capabilities that they have, etc. Hope that hellps
