advise me, for I need direction

Hi. I am a junior at DePaul University. Where should I start for a career in sales & trading? I'm guessing I will have to go to graduate school in order to land a job in trading. Unless I meet someone who can push my resume. But anyways, where are some good areas to start working to advance to sales & trading? Thank You.

If you miss the S&T analyst position, you can always start at in a risk/MO position and try to work your way into a sales or trading assistant role. And after a few years if you see it as a dead end (or haven't met anyone that can push your resume) you could check out grad school.

Origination is a great start - pricing loans, looking at loan docs etc...within 1-2 years of doing that, you should be moving on to the securities side.

You're in Chicago, so you have a lot of options...Google top 25 mortgage originators...ideas include BankOne, Countrywide and LaSalle/ABNAmro off the top of my head. RFC, USbank, Wells, M&I are some other ideas.

Thanks skiloa for the response. I have another question. What about working overseas? I was born and raised in India and am fluent in Hindi, and Gujurati. Would I have a chance working overseas for a bank? Thanks.

Well, I'm not from overseas, so I'm not really sure...If they have thriving mortgage and/or loan businesses, then maybe. Otherwise, no.

I was talking about IB/Sales & Trading. Mortgage loan business is out of question for India. I will take a look at it. Thx
