If you're still on the internship hunt, no worries - lots of boutique investment banks wait to do their hiring until the Spring. Check-out the list of banks that I put together for potential leads.

Wall Street Mentors is a great source for ideas and tips too - Wall Street Mentors.

More Wall Street Mentors videos coming soon. Shoot me a PM or email if you have any requests for Q&A topics.

Original Post:

I recently joined the WSO team in September to run Wall Street Mentors, and our goal is to provide the members of WSO the ability to receive personalized job search help, mentoring, interview prep from professionals that have 10+ years at top finance firms (Goldman Sachs, Bain Capital, Morgan Stanley, McKinsey, etc.).

Since joining, I've been working on compiling a comprehensive list of investment banks to help WSO members that are trying to identify the right investment banks and/or aggressively network. I started with a list of ~1,200 banks exported from CapitalIQ, and I whittled it down to what I thought seemed to be the top 200.

I've segmented the list into three categories:

1) Large, International Investment Banks - 10 Banks
2) Large, Mid-sized, and Prestigious Boutique Investment Banks - 40 Banks
3) Boutique Investment Banks - 150 Banks

For groups 1&2, I simply provide a link to the bank's career website. Perhaps the most valuable part of this list is the information I provided for group 3. For this group, I went onto the website of each bank and tried to gather as much information as possible:

Website
Office Locations
Senior Member at the Firm
Email address
Phone # (many of them are direct dials so be ready if you call!)

If you are seeking to expand your job search to regional boutiques, this list is a great place to start the process.

It was no small task going through this list, so I'm sure that there's plenty of room for improvement. Please let me know if I missed any banks, included outdated information, etc. I'd love input to improve this list.

If you want some help from an experienced investment banking professional, you should check out Wall Street Mentors. Feel free to email me at chris@wallstreetoasis.com with any feedback on this list or requests for help with your job search.

Also, if you want to see the banks in your location, you can simply use the "search function" and type in your city's name while still on this forum.

Hope this list helps.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone - great to hear that this will be helpful.

I'll get started on the S&T list shortly. I'm not as familiar with that industry, so recommendations for sites to pull data from (other than WSO) would be really helpful.

I added HSBC and Qatalyst Partners to the list and I realized that I forgot TD Securities. I'm sure I missed at least a dozen or so others, so please let me know if you notice that a bank is missing.

Thanks again,

Because when your job is to beat the markets and not think the way everyone else does it might be beneficial to have a unique life experience that might not fit the traditional banker mold? Just at a guess.

Aren't a lot of these people going to get very frustrated when tons of people start contacting them? Especially the people towards the top of the list?

That said, I really appreciate you posting these video interviews... they are extremely helpful and so is the concept of building a custom list.

Chris great list! One point to correct even though they are a very small shop and very rarely take on any new analysts / associates the area code for The Capital Corporation is "864" not 846 wanted your contact info to be accurate.

I'm sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but almost all of the banks in the third category are unfamiliar to me. When I do contact them by email, is there an ideal way to mention how I found out about their bank?

not to be a dick but if there are more qualified candidates coming from top schools than there are positions... why should companies consider people with no proven track record, come from non target schools and are most likely from an unrelated field/major with irrelevant experience?

Because when your job is to beat the markets and not think the way everyone else does it might be beneficial to have a unique life experience that might not fit the traditional banker mold? Just at a guess.

Protip of the day: If you have to preface your statement with "not to be a dick", you're being a dick.

If the glove don't fit, you must acquit!

Because hiring managers are smart enough to realize that where you went to school is a highly imprecise, noisy signal of your actual talent and intellect. There are plenty of kids coming from non-targets who will run intellectual circles around target kids. For example, most target kids probably couldn't succeed in a Math PhD program, although plenty of non-targets do it every single year. Potential is a complicated thing...
