AF Academy Cadet

What's up everyone,

I'm a cadet at the AF Academy in Colorado Springs. Won't really be able to break into banking until after my 5 year service commitment but I love reading up on WSO about ways I can plan ahead. I'm jealous of all you "regular" collegiates! haha
Cheers!

Extremely jealous I am. Had an appointment to go, but turned it down (biggest regret). Also know a Lt. Col who was a cadet. Special class of people.

Full ride to a very strong regional school. Wanted to do Dental school and decided it'd be better to go to regular school then Dental school then go Air Force for 4 years.

Turned out I like Economics/Finance more. However I love flying (private pilots license/glider endorsement) and will forever regret it because I was PQ.

Top MBA's are going to love you haha.

Yes, I am not PQ (Pilot Qualified). I always pegged myself as more of a private sector kind of guy anyway, but the military/academy has been good for me these 3 short years. I've read if you can't get into a top10 B School then it's best to get a CFA. What's your take on that?

Keep doing you kid. Bschool is a good choice when you get out, if that's what you want to do. In the meantime, do NOT waste any of your education benefits on anything online, too many vets burn their benefits on useless degrees. Only pursue an MBA as a full time student and at a top university. Put as much effort as possible into your schooling.

With that being said, you are now on cruise control to a very lucrative career. Relax and enjoy the ride.

ArcherVice,

Thanks for the great advice. I hear this as well, that Uncle Sam will pay for your online MBA and it'll help you make Maj or LtCol. It's a ways down the road but I don't see that being the case for me.

Good. Again, just be cognizant that "checking the box" is the DoD culture and not necessarily conducive to a private sector career. Same can be said about wanting an expeditious process, online MBA vs full time MBA, it pays to take your time and do it right. You are way ahead of the game just by being cognizant and preparing for the future you want.

Hey, Academy grad here (Class of '11) and getting out in less than two years. I did the same thing you did and am preparing. Dude, enjoy your time after USAFA, you as well as I know how much the place sucked. Hit me up if you want to chat and keep in touch.
