Analyst or Associate after MFE

Background: 1.5Y work experience in the financial industry, a couple of internships. 2.5Y since graduating from college.

Which campus recruitment program should I apply for? Do I need an MBA to be considered for associate positions in campus recruitment? I think it would increase my chances if I apply for an analyst position, then negotiate with the recruiters during the interviews for a senior analyst/associate position? Or would they consider my work experience etc. before deciding which program is most suitable for me, regardless of the program I applied for in the first place?

THANKS!!

MBA: Associate or Nothing MFE/Other Masters: Majority Analysts, Otherwise Associate or Nothing. More likely to give Associate in the UK than US.

and btw MFE is not a degree of choice anymore. Financial Engineering=Securitizations and that'll continue dwindling down big time.

Financial Engineering=Securitizations????

Typical stereotyping from someone who has no clue.

Do you realize that MFE do more than just structured finance right? They end up in jobs like trading, modeling, risk management, quant developers and anything that requires technical skills.

Oh I think I have a clue. And yes securitizations is the traditional definition of financial engineering. Of course the term is thrown around on everything for the last decade (e.g. Enron's creative "financial engineering).

And of course people do jobs beyond the scope of their degree and sometimes it even becomes commonplace. I also understand that MFE teaches you a bit of all these things from an applied perspective. But it's my opnion is that it's a bastard degree that has lost it's prestige. These bits- Statistics, PDEs, CS, whatever shouldn't be taught in such a pre-professional cookie-cutter environment.

I'm sure you have a valid argument for why you love MFEs for now and the future (I think they had a place in the past but like I said it's dwindling). Frankly I think I know what are your arguments. excuse me if I don't look up this page again and respond.

I agree with the description on how masters candidates are placed, but I disagree that MFE's are not of use anymore. A lot of MFE programs have heavy programming which will help with a variety of quant roles.
