Answering the perennial question to myself "Why MBA?"

Hi!
Basics about me: 3| Engineer| Working in California for 3 years| Work-Visa| Indian| You get the idea(?)|
I've seen friends do their MBAs and get jobs in finance et al but didn't jump the bandwagon then and neither am I inclined to jump it now. I have been looking for reasons to do something new, to answer "why?" so I can work on a plan. Because the feeling of being bored and wanting to do something else seems a bit too flimsy since it could happen again in any other field, how's this degree going to change that?
Reading a book "out of poverty" I was pleasantly surprised to see some good companies that work for-profit and also being about positive social change in the world while not seeing being altruistic and pumping money to try to pull people out of poverty as the one solution that many a NGOs and what not do.
I felt this is the place I want to belong and work for in areas like strategy and business development.
I'd appreciate help here from people for advice/logical flaws/looking at my profile et al since I am starting here. I'm at ground zero.

Thanks a bunch and looking forward to talking to you guys!
A
