Any advice? So close to making it, then no.

Final interview about a month ago for an analyst position at a top inter-dealer broker. I was contacted by HR about a week after telling me that the interviewers really liked my background and that they would contact me soon with next steps once the position was approved. Heard today that the position was being absorbed by a different team and that they were no longer hiring for it--essentially spreading the work around instead of hiring new people. While I can understand this, it's a total let down. However, there are some other positions within the firm that fit my background and HR said they wanted me to let them know of any, so I'm hoping to leverage this shit situation. Has anyone had a similar experience or any advice?

I'm assuming this is ICAP since they have the only real formal recruiting and I understand they were inteviewing people a little over a month ago. What position are you looking to leverage it within the company? As Taylor12 said it is somewhat of a dying industry (voice) but electronic brokering is still growing. Both good entry points and voice broking will always be around, but definitely difficult area to be in. I am a personal friend with a voice broker at a top shop whose been doing it for over 30 years and even he and his friends tell me the less liquid products are really being strained.
