Banking/PE Informal Interview Study Materials
So as a part of me figuring out my future, I set up some informal interviews over the course of this week with a MD from a mid/small market local IB boutique, a partner of the mezzanine capital investment arm of a major retail bank, and a partner at a relatively well known private equity firm.
My approach was a simple "My name is _______ and I currently work in commercial real estate. I am interested in a career switch to M&A advising and would like to get your advice on what I should be doing or what further education and skillset I would need to learn in order to make the transition. Let me know if you would be willing to schedule a time to talk either in person or over coffee" and it worked very well. All seemed happy to talk to me in a couple weeks.
I am obviously not from any of those industries, and I do want to be able to talk intelligently during the meetings, so are there any books or resources available outside of the obvious (Mergers & Inquisitions, WSO, etc.) that I could utilize to give myself a crash refresher course that is perhaps more detail specific?
I've been reading about this industry for years, so I'm confident I could bs my way through a chat, but if they do turn into something more I don't want to get caught with my pants down.
Thanks ahead of time
