BDO Consulting - Valuation

Hello,

At this time, I am going for entry valuation position at BDO. Does anyone know how technical interview for Valuation Associate can get? Would they rather look for fit? Also, what are exit ops from Valuation type of positions and how can you transition into banking? Thanks in advance!

Q1) At my firm (Big 4) they mostly take CA's into the Deals (valuation) group. I would think the American equivalent is CPA, but there may be a chance for a non accountant. This is (I believe) because a lot of valuations are done at Big 4 (regional offices) and BDO/GT for end of year tax reasons more so than big deals.

Although I could be wrong....but the Valuations people I know are only CA's.

Q2) From BDO to banking I imagine would be tough. I have a friend at my firm in one of our national centres who is trying to transition into banking, and even with multi-national valuations experience (for M&A) and being at a manager level he is only getting lukewarm interest (and he made manager young). That being said, interest is picking up now, as is people looking around for mid-size company CFO/VP positions for him.

Fit is always important, in particular at the accounting firms where they are used to training the technical skills into new hires.
