Bloomberg API functions

I need to use a bloomberg bdh function in order to automate pulling down Economic forecast statistics in excel.

If I wanted say the pull down the forecasts for the CPI (from the ECFC screen) data in the years 2010-2012 I would type the following formula in excel:

=bdh(" .....?

The instructions I got online gave the following example to return IBM closing prices from January to December

=BDH (“IBM US Equity”,“Px_Last”,“01/01/01”,“12/31/01”)

Have no idea though how to re-format that to give me an annual CPI number from 2010-2012.

Any suggestions. (if you don't want to give me the answer some outside sources of help would also be appreciated)
