Need Help Writing a Business Plan
So a venture has moved on to the next step and we are now at the stage where I have write a business plan.
The problem, I've never written one.
Is there any good websites out there that provide good information on how to write a good business plan? I've seen a lot online, and sample business plans, etc., but I was just wondering if there are any out there that you would recommend over the other.
I have a teaser type of document that is two pages long outlining the business idea and how we are going to create revenue and things like that, so I really just need to extrapolate on that and the conversations had with the senior partner to create the plan.
Thanks in advance
This is a pretty solid resource: http://www.derbymanagement.com/solution-center/business-planning-tools/
In college, I took a class with the guy who put it together... one of the best classes I've ever taken. He's an active angel investor and on the board of a ton of companies. Knows his stuff.
Books to help write a business plan (Originally Posted: 12/20/2014)
So my first meeting with VC went well. Before any money is granted to my startup, they would like to see certain steps taken. Among these steps is a written draft of a business plan. I have emailed professors and looked through Amazon for books, but I would like to know your recommended sources to help me draft a business plan.
Business Plans / Decks (Originally Posted: 12/17/2012)
Hey all. I have a pretty original startup idea I've been thinking about and researching casually for the past few months and I've decided that I'd like to get serious with it.
I'm wondering if there is a somewhat standardized way or format of putting together a business plan (as there is a resume on Wall St.)? I did one in school once, but I can't remember the last time I actually learned something in school that applied to the real world so I'm skeptical. Any resources you can provide me on putting together some strong pitch materials so that I can attempt to generate interest from VCs would be much appreciated.
Here is a good resource on what should be inside a business plan: http://www.sequoiacap.com/ideas Here is a good resource for an example of format: http://www.slideshare.net/davidklein/vc-pitch-presentation-template-the…
Good luck!
Your slide deck matters as much if not more than your business plan. Technically you should be a walking business plan, and the people you pitch to aren't going to go much deeper than your pitch deck before they start grilling you with tougher DD questions. The "what's your market size" type questions are kind of old news, because A. investors are tired of hearing "if I can sell just one of these to every person in China" B. Investors are intelligent enough to know the answers to these obvious questions (keep in mind a VC likely knows your industry far better than you). I work in the VC/startup area. PM me your email and I can fire you over a deck or two.

You're thinking about this the wrong way. You should create enough of a business plan that can help you order your thoughts and figure out your next move and then do it. Start the business.
No vc will back a paper business from a first time entrepeneur. Getting VC isn't about having the best pitch deck, it's about having the best business.

Do you mean an operating agreement? i'm asking because a business plan probably won't do you any good, will only be a waste of time.
