What myth?

The CFA is a great program that was developed by the investment management and research association a while back. Most takers of the exam fit into those careers.

I'm studying for the Level I having interned in a couple BBs, taking finance classes at the GSB, and finishing up my econ degree in December.

These things add up to my pursuit of a career in investment banking. You have to know your story and why a CFA fits into your chosen career path. I know one guy at the class is an IT specialist at a bank. He wants to do more finance work so a CFA is a great start.

If you have no related work experience, while a CFA shows you're interested, it takes time to follow through all three levels of the exam. At this stage, MBA would be a better bet for someone looking to switch careers.

Sorry to put you on the spot, but I'm wondering: Let's say you're interested in investment banking, why are you an engineering major and not a business, finance, accounting, or economics major? If you are really interested, why don't you have experience working in that field?
