Citi CMO HK vs. CICC Beijing

Have two offers:

  1. Citi CMO in Hong Kong. Probably in DCM.

  2. CICC in Beijing. Probably in M&A or an industry group.

Background info:

CICC, China International Capital Corp, is the top local investment bank in China, responsible for at least 30% of IPO/follow-on market share in mainland China. Now ranks around 4th to 5th in the Hong Kong. Its business is primarily focused on offerings since M&A is pretty small in China or in Asia. It hasled nearly all of the largest deals in China, like the IPO of ABC, ICBC, Sinopec, etc.

In terms of prestige, exit ops, where do you think is the better job? In terms of salary, base is about the same, CICC is around 80% of Citi.

I might want to do a business school in the US in two years.

Btw, I was born and raised in Beijing so no culture issue for me working for CICC Beijing.

CICC in Beijing of course, you will get to work on the mega IPO deals and get extremely good exposure to elite government and business circles in Beijing.

I know a guy who worked 3 years at CICC and worked on some of the largest IPOs in history, leading to a bonus of 10 times his salary.

It was a smooth road to the top West Coast MBA for him

It's not a question.... Going to CICC will help you bulid tons of Relationship in China. I have just read an article about KKR's share-taking of CICC. It says CICC is the most prestigious bank in China^ Wharton and HBS or Stanford really welcome some guy from CICC or something equivalent in China.

For citi, I must say it needs some time to bail itself out after the crisis....
