Cold e-mail. Screwed??
I was to send a cold mail to a VP at boutique company (100 ppl). I really like the company, and I have a few random things in common with this VP: same language (other than English, I mean), same major in bachelor (different university and countries) and same grad major (competing universities in the US).
The day I was to send it, coincidentally I was talking to a colleague (he is from the same region where the company is located, and he had worked there a few years back (I had no idea). Such a coincidence! I thought (it is a boutique firm).
So very willingly he sent an email to this VP saying about this colleague of him who is very interested in the company (and all that talk).
1 week after and no reply.
Now I wonder if I have screwed it and I should have send it by myself. What do you think? So I am thinking about 3 possibilities.
1. Send another mail directly to this guy (and mention the mail) and attach my CV.
2. Call him.
3. There is another VP who is actually an alumnus of my university, but in a different major, we have completely different backgrounds and probably the most different positions in the company I can think of.
What would you do?
With respect to option 1.. if you do decide to email him, please don't attach your CV. There are just so few circumstances in which that could ever come across as endearing.
Why wouldn't you attach your CV? I was looking at discussions about this right now (whether to attach it or not). I think attaching it can look a bit aggresive (or even desperate), but it is just quicker.
