Coldcalling or Cold walking in unannounced?

Hey gents,

Looking to start making contact with some boutique IB and AM firms for next summer (Sophomore Summer). As I've never done this, I have a few questions I hope you could answer (already read everything on M&I)

1. If I can't find an MD or President's email/phone number, should I just call the number in the company's contact section and try and get past the gatekeeper?

2. What about the Careers section of websites? Is this more effective than cold calling or will my request be easily ignored?

3. If my calls and emails aren't working, would it be a total social "faux pas" to walk in and ask to speak to someone/hand over a resume. (I knew a girl who did this in the same city trying to get an internship at a dentist's office and it worked extremely well)

Let me know guys,

Thanks

Careers website. Dealing with stupid HR people. Yeah right. Complete utter waste of time.

Yea this was my worry, I'd rather just hazard a call or walk in and insist

It is impossible to get into many places (especially larger cities; i.e. NYC) as they require a pass or have security, etc. Banks and AMs are not like dentist offices. Though from what I've seen, many boutiques even go so far as to post contact info for MDs and principals at their firms.

Good luck
