Is it safe to email him and tell him I'm applying to the program and ask for tips and/or if he still has contacts in the company that may be able to give me some insight on landing an interview? Is it too much to ask? Please advice monkeysss

"Hi John. In case you may not recall, this is XYZ from Class101. How are you? I hope you've had an enjoyable summer, the school year is right around the corner! I am emailing you because I intend on applying to the undergrad development program at companyX and understand that you were a former employee there. Are you familiar with the program at all? I was wondering if you could provide me with some insight on the program or if you may be able to put me in touch with someone in the company who is, who you may still be in contact with. And at your convenience of course. Any help is appreciated. Best Regards."
