corp dev (internal M&A team) at a gaming company? job and salary expectation?
Hi,
I have recently received an offer from an internet gaming company (e.g. EA/Blizzard Activision etc.). The company has a fairly strong presence in the market they play in, with approx. 2$ billion in revenue as of 2015, 7-9$ billion market cap. So not as mega as EA/Blizzard.
I am fresh out of undergrad, and was able to land an offer leveraging my internship experiences in PE/banking.
I have never imagined starting my full-time career at corp dev, especially at a gaming company. Some I was interested because I am a game-lover since I was so young. So thought the work would be very interesting.
the work:
- acquisition of other gaming companies. So lots of DDs and financial analysis/modeling. But the modeling work will be different from what I have experienced in PE at most part, since I will be dealing with gaming companies (hard to perform valuation. no solid historical financials, valuation based on people and their track records, etc.)
Pros? Interesting work, access to C-level execs (Current CEO of this firm was also from this group), faster promotion (Maybe)
concerns:
- career progression: I know little about how it works in this field, as opposed to the traditional banking>PE or ER > AM/hedge fund.
** Mostly concerned about being pigeonholed at this firm/industry unless VC can be a clear exit opp, since gaming company valuation will be very different and cant be used in normal PE/banking. The VC market in country I am in is small. Also large portion of the deals they do are small-size deals, especially when they acquire a start-up company with no revenue.
- salary: Have not yet negotiated with the firm, but what should I be expecting? Is 50k+bonus fair? (Although I am a recent graduate, the firm agreed to recognize my previous internships in finance, So I would be going in as a 2nd yr analyst)
other options on hand
- currently talking with one of ER firm with good reputation. salary here would be approx 70k all in.
- other normal company (e.g. GE/P&G) graduate program.
I want to hear any opinion, how attractive this offer would be, and if i should just move on and go for the ER opportunity instead.
P.S. in my country, avg salary for fresh undergrad in normal companies is around 45~55k all in.
Not sure about exit ops, but 50k plus bonus seems low. Should probably be more like 70k plus bonus.
