Michael Phelps first competed in the Olympic Games at 15 years old.
In 2000, he became the youngest man ever to set a swimming world record.
Now, if I try to list all the records he's set till date and all the history that he's created...well, I'd have to make five more posts.
Some of you will say his talent is God-gifted.
But ask him what makes him soooo special, and he'll tell you, "I love the competition and I love to train."
That's what makes the biggest difference, not only to an Olympic level sports career, but to any life, for anyone. You and I don't need to be sports stars to realize that success in any field ultimately comes down to your attitude.
The ride wasn't always smooth.
In 2009, Phelps was caught smoking marijuana after becoming the most decorated Olympian athlete in the history of the game. Overnight, he lost millions in endorsement deals and disappointed so many of his supporters.
Once the news broke, Phelps was quoted telling his agent "I don't want to be alive anymore." In addition, news about his addition with alcohol also revealed how bad his mental state was.
I thought Phelps was done. Instead, he's made almost a full recovery.
Yesterday, Phelps claimed the 22nd Olympic gold of his Olympic career after powering past the opposition in the final of the 200-meter individual medley. That victory, the 13th individual triumph of his Olympics career, meant he surpassed the greatest athlete of ancient Greece and indeed of the Games -- Leonidas of Rhodes.
It's not about how hard you fall, but how fast you get up. Falling is inevitable. When it happens, how long will it take you to get back up?
Hands down, the most dominant athlete of all time. Don't argue about it.
