Interview - Dean & Co. (Originally Posted: 05/26/2010)
I have been invited to a finance interviewfor an associate position at Dean & Co. All I know is that it will be a 45 minutes case interview over phone.
Can anyone please confirm what kind of case of expect. I have commercial banking experience, IB internship and an MBA degree and have never appeared for any case interview.
Any help/guidance will be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, bcbunker1. Would you happen to remember what kind of question? Let me re-pharse and ask - having gone through the process, if you were to prepare once again. What all would you do?
.......
Hard to prepare specifically for case interviews, the best thing you can do is become familiar with the format in general - it's pretty different than your standard finance interview.
When I interviewed with Dean senior year of college, most of the cases were manufacturing centric. Things like how to optimize production, how manufacture most cheaply between facilities (at different costs in each facility), how to price the product, etc.
Dean & Co actually puts out their own guide called "How to Crack the Case", which is all about preparing for case interviews in general. A lot of students I knew that interviewed for consulting roles with all kinds of firms used it as a general preparedness document - I assume it's especially relevant for Dean interviews specifically.

Thank you very much gentleman. Seems like I have got my work cut out for me.
I will post what I got asked for future reference.
I would echo the comment on it being manufacturing centric. I remember something about a factory and quickly calculating packaging costs per unit based on some roundabout data they gave you... ended up being pretty simple really.
