Execution and Origination
I know this is a noob question, but I'm trying to get a full understanding of these two terms so I can refine my research on the web. Can someone give me an example of what you actually do in both?

Can someone shed some lights on this?
iirc, origination means sourcing deals while execution is more along the lines of carrying out the transaction and seeing it to completion
So when you source deals, you have to go out to find clients and make a pitch right? For example, debt origination.
And execution is like doing due dilligence, filing the paperwork and etc?
bump
Origination = rely on sr bankers relationships, "getting in front of the client," getting invited to bakeoffs, working on pitches.
Execution = once mandated, complete the deal. If M&A, elaborate on models, accr/dilution, full merger analysis. If debt/equity, terms/pricing, book-build, revisit terms/pricing, price, etc.
so within PE, if you're working solely in deal origination as an analyst/associate intern how much of a skill set would you be getting thats highly transferable to IB?

I work in an IB firm and this is how we do it.
Origination: sourcing deals. this is mainly done by your Associate (Managers), Seniors, CEO, Directors.
Execution: number crunching + documentation. this is where Analysts are needed. We do the full valuation model (from scratch of course!), pitch materials, filing, Due Diligence, etc.
Origination: Sourcing deals, like prospecting in sales.
Execution: Analysis, documentation, due diligence, basically actually carrying out the transaction
