First Impression w/ senior firm member...

I have an upcoming phone conversation with a senior member of a respectable Boutique IB (MD,VP level). I am trying to secure a spring internship that I hope will become a summer offer. My question is what could I expect from the conversation? Should I try to turn it into a face to face meeting? This is my first conversation of this kind and I'm a little nervous; any tips or information is welcomed.

Some background info: Junior year no banking experience 3.8 gpa Major ~4.0(econ) Non-target

Talk on the phone, have good things to ask about the firm, the position and what not. Ask some questions about what he does and what not, but I would try to leave the personal career stuff for the meeting/coffee/lunch date, def try and get face time. At that level, they really appreciate it a lot more than an email. In any event email phone call face time. Follow up on the call with a thank you email, asking to stay in touch. You're time line seems pretty constricted so this might not work but set up that meeting asap, and in it I would suggest asking exactly what you wrote on this forum. "I'm looking for a spring internship, just want to learn, willing to work for peanuts etc" Sell yourself and the fact that you're non-target and want to gain some experience because IB is what you want to do. Good luck, be confident, not arrogant (fine line between the two), smile and be yourself!
