Green Card / Work Permission for U.S.

Dear all,

In weeks time I will finish my education at a well respected university in Europe. My last two summer I spent interning for a hedge fund and in a corporate finance advisory firm. Next year I will start working for a BB in an analyst position.

It has always been a dream of mine to work in the U.S. This bears the question: how difficult is it to get a permit to start working there?

Regards,

Isaac

alright, thanks!

say i wanted to apply with a job with another firm in two years time or so... how do you guys think not yet having a permit will impact your chances of getting hired?

H1 visa can be transferred between employers if you switch jobs. It is the initial application for the H1 that is a bitch, so once you've already gotten the H1, you should be fine.

Green card is another story. The backlog for GC stretches out to five years for most nationals, more so for Mexicans, Indians, Chinese & some countries. This means you probably have to stay with your employer for at least that amount of time to get the GC.
