how do you answer......

Why do you want to work for Deutsche Bank (or any other BB)and not Merrill Lynch/GS/Morgan Stanley?

How do you say you wanna to work for a lower BB like DB, Bank of America ... rather than the better and more prestigious BB?

find out what the bank is known for - DB hasn't been hit hard by the fallout (offers security) and arguably has certain better fixed income operations than ML/GS/MS

What bank is going to outwardly insinuate that they are a second tier bank if they really want you to work there? I can assure you that DB/BOA will not ask a question like that. Its cognitive dissonance, second tier bankers are internally aware of the status of their banks but they dont outwardly express it as they have convinced themselves that they compete at the same level. DB/BOA are solid choices and you should be lucky enough to get a job at either place under current conditions.

Are banks actually hiring at all? Or are they just maintaining the relationship with the career centre?

Also, would like to ask the more experience people here.. I am invited to a cocktail event for a particular boutique investment bank. Is this sort of an inverview or screening process that banks use? Just be chill and don't try to hard to impress?

from what I hear, 'recruiting' this year is going to be a relationship play at select schools; few to no offers

cocktail receptions are great events - you can chill with the jr people and hopefully build some good rapport. always good to walk into an interview facing the guy you had a beer with the night before; ideally you'll spend the interview talking about whatever game was on TV at the bar

any interaction you ever have with a firm is a screening process - relax and be professional
