How good is BHP really ?

I got admitted to the Business Honors Program at Texas. I'm an international and I hadn't heard of BHP until I had done some research. Would really appreciate if someone could answer the following questions :

1) How prestigious is? How is its reputation internationally?

2) How does it compare to Wharton, Ross, Cornell AEM? (got deferred early from Wharton). I have heard many people say it's second only to Wharton. Really?

Please note I want to know about BHP, not Mccombs. All the business school ranking rate Mccombs but not BHP specifically.

Thank you for your time

If your goal is IBD then it'll go Wharton>Cornell AEM>Ross>BHP. Regardless all 4 programs place kids every year into top firms. BHP has amazing placement in Dallas and Houston with some placement in NYC. The other 3 have amazing placement in NYC.

Internationally, all 4 are solid. I think it's the same ranking. Although my friends who are Korean and Chinese say all the big public schools are very well known in their home countries. For example, University of Michigan - Ross would probably be perceived as more prestigious than maybe Cornell. From what they told me and anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong say UC - Berkeley is right up there with Harvard and Stanford.

Robert Clayton Dean: What is happening? Brill: I blew up the building. Robert Clayton Dean: Why? Brill: Because you made a phone call.

My roommate from Korea told me UC Berkeley has a fantastic rep. over there - almost on par with HYP.

I concur with goodL1fe's rankings. If I were in your shoes, I would attend in the following order: Wharton (if you get off the list), Cornell, Ross, BHP.

Congratulations on all of your admissions because any one of these schools will place you in a great BB / boutique IBD firm. That being said, BHP will place you great predominantly in Houston / Dallas / the South. As an International applicant, I imagine that you would possess a greater inclination to work, eventually, in a major city like NYC (Wharton/Cornell/Ross would all place better), Chicago (Wharton/Cornell/Ross would place better), or San Francisco (same story although I would imagine only Wharton's pull would travel as far as SF).

I attended UC Berkeley Haas for undergrad and while I love the school, it's definitely not the best undergraduate business program in the country. However, I would argue that It's in the top 3-5 (I worked at Lazard out of undergrad and every single BB + Blackstone M&A, Lazard, Evercore, Qatalyst recruit at Haas). The USNews rankings are probably the most accurate in terms of general perception (The businessweek bschool undergrad rankings are just not credible; no one in their right mind would attend Notre Dame over Wharton, MIT Sloan, Berkeley Haas). The USNews has the rankings as such:

1) Wharton 2) Sloan (MIT) / Haas (Berkeley) / Ross (Michigan) 5) Stern (NYU) / UVA

If you want to work in the South, choose BHP. Otherwise, I would attend Cornell / Ross over BHP. Both parent institutions are more prestigious than UT Austin.

PS: I worked at Lazard SF and now Citi NY and the move from SF to NYC is way tougher than the move from NYC to SF (basic supply and demand). Going from Houston to NY is even harder than going from SF to NYC (unless you're in Energy, in which case, why would you want to move to NYC).

I am currently not sure of where I want to work. I am not even sure of which continent I would like to work. How is BHP Perceived internationally ? I know for a fact that BHP people are given the royal treatment by the university faculty. I am finding it very hard to say No to a school which tops every Party-school list and whose academics are comparable to any top undergraduate university. Should social scene even be a criteria ?

Okay, can anybody sell BHP to me over the other top economics/business schools ?

And Thank you so much for the replies!! I like WSO already. So much more informative and mature than College Confidential.
