Depends on project. Depends on firm, depends on people in home office, depends on area within consulting you are in at home office.

That being said...

Fridays are typically social. Been on projects where we will always have a conference call for at least an hour or two around noon. I'll have stuff to do in the morning but can usually get it done by noon-2pm. It is your choice if you want to do that from your couch in gym shorts, or go to the office, socialize with colleagues, go out to happy hour with everyone and network.

The ball is usually in your court on whether you want to go in or not so after a very stressful week you'll probably opt for the extra hour of sleep + work from your couch. But... you can make a lot of positive impact to your career by being around the office social events on Fridays, just meeting people, chatting with people, possibly uncovering upcoming projects that are right up your alley that you might have a chance to jump on.

FYI, not senior lvl but wanted to give input. The director on my last project had been to his home office like 3-4 times in the last 6 months while the manager would go to his every other week.

This pretty much answers it all:

There have been plenty of Fridays that I've not worked at all and enjoyed cities away from home (without taking time off). Plenty of Fridays that I've gone into the office for a few hours to network/socialize. Plenty that I've cranked away at the office for a full day. Several that I've had to spend at the client, away from home.

Do any consultants ever not work on Fridays? ie. What if they wanted to take a trip on the weekend and decided to fly out on a Thursday evening or Friday.
