How to advance fast?

So how do all these guys that are directors (senior vps) that run desks at major banks only twenty-six? Did they become an associate after only one year? Did they make VP in three? I am just wondering how the super exceptional standout and outpace the normal promotion timeline.

Some combination of one or more of the following: 1) Are intelligent 2) Know somebody 3) Did really well at their job 4) Are just lucky

more than likely they knew someone and were able to lead to a deal early on in their career... if you can convince your MD that it is worthwhile to pursue a deal and the deal falls thru as a result of your tireless efforts you will not only get promoted quickly but u'd make a shit load of money... that's the differentiator btw the boys and the men in any analyst class
