HTC Evo or IPhone 4G

IPhone 4g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoqh27E6OuU

I'm about to switch phones and don't know which one to pick. I'm leaning heavily towards the Evo, but may hold out until the Samsung 4G phone comes on the market. I hate Jobs, but the Iphone 4 is very slick. Anybody have the Evo yet?

Ive got the Incredible and it's awesome. I'll take HTC any day, Evo it is!

I just purchased an Evo last week and so far have been very satisfied with it. The rumors about the poor battery life are certainly true... though I'm learning about ways to work with it (ie advanced app killer, extra charger, extra battery). The thing that sold me on the Evo was that the monthly price at Sprint is significantly cheaper than AT&T. I ran the numbers and it's something like a $40 saving every month. Not to mention the terrible service I had with AT&T at my place. I'll definitely take that over a few extra hours of battery power, especially when there are ways to work around the battery issue.

Overall, really cool phone. So much better than my former BlackBerry with great features I'm still learning about.

evo battery isn't that bad. it helps to charge it in the off position at night when you can, but I consistently get ~14-16 hrs out of it from moderate use while managing my apps/gps use. i phone's battery isn't great either, but with the iphone you can't buy an extra battery to switch out. evo is a sick phone, but i'm sure the iphone 4 would be pretty sick too.

oh, and i'm not sure about the Evo, but the Incredible has an AMAZING 8MP camera, with a double LED flash, awesome auto-focus (with capability of shooting random crap inches away from you), and some other cool features.

respect to the Evo, but def check out the Incredible. + you're on Verizon's network pwning other cellular noobs left and right

The Evo is really nice but Sprint's Coverage generally sucks. I know in NYC, At&t and Verizon have better coverage. Not sure about other areas but you can check cnet. Also At&t 3G network is still the fastest and most advanced (voice and data), albeit choked by iPhone users on occasion and Verizon's is pretty big. If you're not getting the benefit of 4G, I'd say iPhone or Droid Incredible as alternatives. Personally, I'd go iPhone, slicker product, more apps to get things done, and I don't mind Steve Jobs.

FYI, Sprint and Verizon have an agreement so Sprint customers roam on Verizon's towers for free. So all I don't know why all these people say Verizon's coverage is so great but Sprint's somehow sucks. Maybe it does, but it doesn't make that much sense to me.

Verizon's Incredible is nearly the same thing as Google's Nexus One but also is very much like Sprint's Evo. The main differences are the Incredible's optical track pad, smaller (3.7in vs 4.3in) AMOLED (vs. LCD) screen, same processor (however, I believe the Incredible's is throttled back 800Mhz vs 1 Ghz in the Evo), same camera and dual flashes, Evo has a 1.3 MP front facing for video conferencing, Evo also has an HDMI out port if that matters to you. Other than that, if your in the right city, Sprint has 4G coverage, Verizon doesn't yet and AT&T only lets you make voice calls when it wants to, so no contest.

I messed around with an Evo today at a Best Buy and it was really nice. The 3G download speed tested out at 1.8mb/s and 4G came in at 3.7mb/s. Pretty nice. Sprint's service with the everything plan includes a butt load of stuff (many you probably would never use, but who knows)

Also note that the Evo is tough to get your hands on right now because most places are sold out. Most of the Best Buys in the area I am only had 1 each and that is the demo model. The guy I talked to said they are suppose to get more Wednesday but that isn't for sure and I am #15 on the waiting list...which was only started a few hours before I showed up (the guy told me). Of note as well, the Incredible is somewhat limited too so there may be a waiting list also depending on where you go.

Evo for sure...hopefully I will get mine Wednesday.

Regards

i dont think there is an iPhone 4G. its the iPhone 4 and still only works 3G.

stoked to hear about the EVO, I have been contemplating the move to EVO as well but it seems enormous. EVO owners is it that much bigger that youre embarrassed to have it in your pocket?

I thought they were going to make it 4g but I may have misheard.

Edit: Yep looks like I was wrong, my bad. To be fair though I don't really care, since 3g hasn't even been really optimized yet imo.

3G is going to be a thing of the past as soon as Verizon and AT&T make the jump to 4G. 3G speeds and coverage are about as "optimized" as they can get. (This isn't true for AT&T, though. Their coverage sucks!!)

Once you try 4G you won't ever want to use 3G again. 4G speeds destroy 3G and the carrier to establish the best 4G coverage quickest will be at a huge advantage! Carriers should be focusing on 4G roll-out, not 3G optimization.
