Investment Analyst vs Research Analyst

I've noticed that in Asset Managers that they are some individuals with the title of "Investment Analyst" and some with the title of "Research Analyst."

What is the difference? (I am assuming the Investment Analyst works more closely with the PM in managing the portfolio, while the Research Analyst is fully committed in financial analysis)

Does one position rank higher than the other one in the grand scheme of things?

That's a research analyst... Usually you find the research analyst at a bank, generating research to sell to institutions so they could trade that security with the firm and generate some fees. Investment analysts manage a pool of money and determine where it is best placed for whatever the scope of investment is...
