Landing a job in IB w/ a different/unique background...
I am writing this because I am at a loss and am hoping to find some guidance/wisdom. I recently turned 30 and am looking to get into the IB field. I have a BA w/ a minor in finance from a non Ivy League institution and instead of inflating my credentials, throwing around exaggerated job titles, and "pumping my tires" per se I am going to be brutally honest. The truth is I have no unbelievably special skills or genius eccentricities, but I do have a thirst for knowledge that is second to none and will work harder than most and compete with anyone. I was a career minor league professional hockey player, hence my delayed entrance into the job market, and have learned and experienced the value of competition, preparation, and teamwork in an unparalleled way. Any and all advice is wanted and welcome and I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to read this and respond.
go MBA route. chance for everyone to start from zero. otherwise it's going to be tough.
Yep, MBA route is your only option. Too old to get hired as an analyst and too inexperienced to be hired as an associate.
On the bright side, the talent pool for banking has never been shallower so this is the best time.
As others have said, the MBA route would be your best route into IB. Another finance route where I've personally known a few minor league sports guys guys (mostly baseball but I knew a guy in Boston who was an ex-hockey guy but he also played a couple of seasons in the NHL also) who did well was in PWM. There are a few good threads by @"thebrofessor" describing the different aspects of it.
