Leaving medicine to economics?

Hi everybody,

i'm un UG student in italy currently at the end of 4th year, 2 left down the road..
I basically stopped feeling anything but anxiety when it comes to study and, much more, apprentice in hospital. I'm not interested anymore in clinical activity, my mom wished I became a doctor for some special sensitivity I'm told to have got.
Now, stressed and frustrated I took and passed a test to enter BSc in Economics and Management. It's been 2 years I've been dealing with this, reading business newspapers and hanging out with economics students.
I like finance, markets, economic policies (don't know if it's right in english)..

I dont' know what's better:
-finish med school, do an intern (as a medical advisor) at a pharma/biotech company for a while and then maybe apply for MBA (It's a lot of money, but my dad supports me)
-restart at 25 at economics, with my friends having started their own careers, studying with younger mates and so on.. i would end at 30 yo if I'll finish on time,.. that scares me a lot..

any advice? i just don't want to see patients, hospitals, I'd like to work in a environment where people talk daily about what's happening in the world, why fed is raising interest rates, how's draghi's Qe is doing well in Europe, how bail-in is changing the italian banks scenario, why nasdaq/s&p500/dj are on their peaks....

sorry if it's too long and too off topic,

thanks,

F.

Firstly ignore what anybody (I MEAN IT) thinks when you make decisions that affect your own life, you are the only person you should be thinking off. Don't let your parents dictate you also, my life took a downhill path and very early I decided to control my own fate.

I don't know how badly your issues are, if you can get help for it and finish your course that would be great. If there is absolutely nothing you can do to get past it, change course. I know it sucks man but ignore this age thing, focus on yourself and build the life you want to be happy with, damn... I've seen much older people restart different courses and it's ok.

The moral of the story is "Do you", when you focus on yourself (sounds selfish), you will become much more successful and then be in a place to help others while making your loved ones proud.

Appreciate your frankness. My problem is that when I focus on myself, the answer isn't clear. I still think that after graduation I can do other stuff; in my mind I see chances to change after, but then doubts start to drill my brain til I see myself homeless in the future.. Maybe the problem is my personality, I'm following a psychotherapy route and it's helping me.

I see that in US there's more flexibility about personal choices; in Italy everything seems too strict: "you studied this, so you're going to work here for your entire life". Makes me feel trapped.. Again, looks like lot is up to my personality....

You need to get help on how to stop the negative thinking. You were capable of making it to university (while taking loans) and have a supportive dad (mum is also supportive I hope), you should not be spending a single second thinking about homelessness (it will can become a self-fulfilling prophecy). You need to sit down in our room alone and really focus on what you see yourself being in the future, something where you can have a stable life while making money to support your family and be happy.

If you can't...pick your desired industry sectors and research in detail every single job and find out what the typical day is like. Hopefully you will find what you want to be. You could stick to medicine if you want. Just try don't be those doctors who clearly don't like their job, always referring minor cases to other doctors and speeding home the moment their shift is done.....It won't be a happy life.
