Lehman Securitization Banking

How competitive is it to get a job in this group (vs. general IBD)?
Also, how are the pay (i.e. bonus) and exit opps?
Thanks.

The group

is pretty small (about 100 people) but considered one of the powerhouses of Lehman's Capital Markets side. As for how hard it is to get a job, it depends on the number they are pulling (i.e. their summer interns who decided to sing on and whatever).

Exit opps aren't as good as IBD, but it also depends on which business group you go into. For example, if you go into Mortgage Backed Securities or something similar to that, you could maybe exit into trading, but not to a PE/HF. whereas if you work in Esoterics or such, the exit opps are very similar to those of IBD. But, I've also heard of analysts who moved into IBD at Lehman as 3rd years or associates, so lateral movement can be achieved, if you really hate it that much.

Rumor has it that one of the first years at Lehman in MBS group of S. Banking received the highest 1st year analyst bonus in the bank. So it's a pretty good place to be. Of course it depends on the market, but it's a solid group to be in and one of Lehman's more notable groups, esp. the work they do in Esoterics.

you can definitely make the

you can definitely make the move to a fixed income relative value shop from an MBS group. there arent a lot of MBS funds but they exist.
