Masters at an Ivy League or PhD at Vanderbilt?
I am applying to three B-schools and two PhD programs. Two of the B-schools are ivy league, while the other programs are mid T-20s. The Vanderbilt PhD program in Economics seems like a sure bet, but in case some miracle happens and I do get accepted into one of the Ivies, should I pass up a PhD from Vanderbilt?
Depends on what you're looking to do. Phd's in banking are usually math based, and for trading.
Ivy league B-school doesn't connote the same prestige as Ivy league undergrad FYI.
So true. A Yale MBA isn't particularly impressive.
I agree. An MBA from Yale, Brown or Cornell isn't that great.
An MBA from Brown would be quite impressive actually. A one of a kind.
I just applied to Cornell and Yale.
I don't think Brown offers MBAs...?

Generally speaking, top tier MBA programs are the "M7" schools, which include Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, Chicago, Kellogg, Columbia and Sloan (although Tuck is right up there).
Heh, I'd rather go to Tuck than Sloan or Kellogg any day of the week. I have a low opinion of the MIT alums I've met and Kellogg is simply too marketing/consulting focused. Also, Tuck has gotten much better at post-MBA PE placement or so I've heard.
