Multifamily Real Estate to Broader CRE
Monkeys,

I have been working the last two years at an agency lender doing Fannie and Freddie loans working on both the production (pre-screening the deal) and underwriting side. When I accepted this role I also had an offer from a private real estate investment company, but chose the debt side to gain exposure to a larger plethora of deals. I am now looking to break out of the multifamily sector and join the broader CRE space so I can analyze office, retail, hospitality, and other asset types. My end goal is to work for a fund or a REIT that invest in all asset classes, but I know I cannot make that jump right away. What is a possible path for me to get there? I am afraid I have pigeon holed myself to just multifamily, although I have had some broader commercial experience in the past through internships and the mixed use multifamily properties. What is the best transition for me out of the agency space? Any comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
