My one shot at high finance.

Hey guys,

This is kind of a weird post but bear with me,

I applied for an analyst position in structured credit at Fitch Ratings via their online application nearly a month ago without expecting anything to happen. I go to a crappy state school that's not a target for much of anything so I was shocked when they contacted me about scheduling an interview, albeit for now just a phone interview. Anyway, I'm taking this as a freak occurance and my one shot at getting into high finance, because for most of my college career I was a premed and frankly did not jump though any of the hoops most people do in order to get in.

So my question is, what kind of a job is this, exactly? How related is it to investment banking and could it serve as an entryway into same? If I sound completely ignorant and oblivious, it's because I am! What should I expect from the interview process? Any help would be greatly appreciated because as you can tell, I need all the help I can get!

it isnt related at all to investment banking. structured credit vehicles such as CLOs are composed of a hierarchy of debt with each piece call a tranche. These tranches are rated by the rating agencies based on a lot of different factors such as the quality of the assets underlying the deal, coverage ratios, overcollateralization ratios, deal structure, location in the debt hierarchy, etc. I assume you would be assisting in the pretty standardized process of rating these vehicles. It isnt a bad job but i wouldnt consider it high finance.

Fuking amazing, that's all I have to say. I tried doing the phone interview today, all I have is a cell phone, always worked fine for me. I'm in my apartment, all bars are lit up. I get the call, we start talking, then it comes to the background questions. All of a sudden things start getting warbled, for a few seconds at a time, always when she goes over the relevant part of the question, then I can hear fine again and am asking her to "please repeat that last part" like a fuking idiot. Trying to salvage the situation I try moving to another area, then the signal drops entirely. I try calling back but all I get is the secretary connecting me to the answering machine, so I leave a message apologizing for the situation and asking her to call me back whenever she has time. And that's that. Took all of my self control to stop myself from smashing the phone against the nearest wall.

Is there anything I can do at this point?
