non target rising junior nyc

Hello Fellow Monkeys, this is my first post on wso and i def am a big fan of this website so what better place to seek advice. Hopefully you could help me out. I am a rising junior that attends a non target, pretty big private catholic school in Queens, NYC. I am seeking a SA position for my Junior year in IB, AM, or S&T. I am currently interning at a Boutique IB in the S&T department. I have a 3.6 gpa and I am majoring in accounting/finance. I have had thoughts about transferring to a target many times but always thought that I could take advantage of living in NYC instead. I would like to transfer to Columbia or Stern but its just too difficult to get in. So, my question is what would you do? I am inquiring on schools that are considered lower tier target schools such as Vandy, maybe Ross, and UVA.

My questions are:

1)Would you consider these schools as feeders ?

2)Is it worth the leave? Is networking from a reputable non target just as effective as attending a target in terms of getting into IB or S&T at a BB or Boutique?

3) Is it too late for a Rising Senior to transfer to a target school to take advantage of OCR? I know I would be losing credits but it is a price that I am willing to pay if it means that I could secure an offer out of graduation.

On the other hand, I have many "lead connections" through my father who owns a limo company which picks up all the MD's from Barcap, to GS, to CS. I have spoken to an MD recently at Barcap and he said it was too late for this summer but to contact him for next summer. How does one take advantage of these "leads?" I know it would't make sense for me to contact them as it is too late for me to get in this summer, but when should i contact them for the next summer? I am relatively new to the whole world of wall street and really am looking to take in as much information as I can. Thanks a bunch guys.

Your connections are important. It's too late to transfer. Forget about that. Knowing an MD is a huge step. These guys have tremendous power. Take him up on the contact for next summer. Non-targets sometimes beat out target kids just because they have better contacts.

hey blackjack thanks so much for the response, i guess it is too late eh. even though i had a cousin transfer to lse his junior year from a non target in barren land, i guess i should just take advantage of being in nyc. problem for me this year was that i actually had gotten in touch with another md at a bb through my dad. we met a couple of times and initially he was giving me an offer back in september but unfortunately i could not have accepted since i did not know excel, but now i am pretty proficient in it to say the least since I've took the m&a excel and modeling course along with wall street training stuff etc. so is it really that good to know md's at various BB's? how does that work?doesn't everything go through HR? I am asking this because the guy was so busy that I had to wait in the lobby for him each time from 2-5 hours just to speak with him for 10 minutes at most. Thanks for the response again man I really do appreciate it.

Do you realize how many kids would kill for a chance to get 10 minutes with an MD to pitch themselves?
