Prospective Monkey Incoming!

Hi everyone,

As the title suggests, I am a prospective monkey. I'm currently studying for my bachelors of commerce, majoring in Finance and minoring in Econ at a non-target school. My GPA hasn't been too solid over the course of these two years since I was figuring out myself and what it is I really wanted to do with my life after university. Somehow I became very interested in the world of capital markets, which then lead me to an interest in M&A.

Why M&A you may ask? At first I had been generally interested in the macro aspect of economics, seeing how what affects what from different regions across the world, and then I started to see the immense impact a good (or bad) company may have on a global scale and how external factors may affect the performance of said companies. Once I started to really understand these concepts I then began understand the impact a merger or a spin off, etc, may have on certain companies, and especially the markets and economies around them. All globally, too. I figured if I could get myself into a position where I can be involved in something that's beneficial for a) the shareholders b) the companies c) the immediate economy and d) society then I'd much rather be doing that than slaving away somewhere else. I am still naive, however, so maybe what I want is unattainable, which is why I'd still want to get into this business - to learn, fail, get back up on my feet, and what I can and cannot do.

What do I want from Wall Street Oasis you may ask? Well, for one, these next two years are all I've got to really try to polish off my resume for recruitment season. I am here to strengthen my resume through the vast amounts of experience and advice offered by veterans of the forums, as well, I want to strengthen my technical and networking skills, so that when it comes to me and some 4.0 GPA Whizkid from Wharton I'll still be able to have an equal chance at getting the position that both of us want. What it comes down to is really just educating myself as much as I possibly can through these forums. I've been reading threads and Q&A and a tonne of other content and I think this is the perfect time for me to join the community and start getting involved.

Anyways, I am not by any measure a genius, but I know I am at least smart, and capable. I have a lot to learn and I have a lot of questions that I want to ask.
