I have worked in investment banking (boutique firms) as an investment banker as well as a research analyst for a year prior to moving in house. In this capacity, I have worked in a financial strategy position and am now a CEO of a smaller company, in a turnaround capacity. That said, I have the strong desire to return to equity research in my industry (FIG - banks), but am concerned about my years of experience (10) being a hinderance.
What are my chances of getting a research associate positon at a BB? I dont have an MBA/CFA.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. I want to know if this is just wishful thinking on my part.

by sk8247365This is from someone with little experience...but I think it might be difficult. Usually associates have a few years of experience and get paid to match that. They are expected to have a learning curve, etc. You have a lot of experience but from what I have seen senior positions in equity research require a certain understanding of equity research. That said, you may have trouble transitioning into a senior equity research position when you have not developed your own track record and models to go along with it. However, you may be able to get into an asset mgt firm of some kind...

by sk8247365If you want to increase your chances, I would get your series 7 63 86 and 88 done. I know when my firm was looking for a new hire if someone would have had these they would have had a good advantage.
