Salary projections post-MBA per industry

hey guys,

As many of you, I am heading to bschool this fall. I am currently researching post-MBA careers.

I was wondering if we could start up a discussion about salary and career projections post-MBA. I know money is NOT everything, but it is definitely an important variable when choosing a career. For banking I think we have a clear idea, but what about consulting and other industries. For example: Asset Management, Energy (industry), Fast-track leadership development programs in other industries, Insurance Asset Management (in-house), Microsoft, Healtcare, etc.

You might asking about more long-term projections, but MBA programs usually break down starting salaries by industry (they'll at least have AM and Consulting on there). I'd start with the most recent employment report for your school if you haven't already.

exactly, I am wondering about salary projection... I am really curious about Energy. There seems to be a lot of Leadership Development programs at oil&gas companies, but i was wondering how is compensation, bonuses and total compensation 5-10 years out of the MBA.

I am trying to to get an idea as to how are the variable bonuses for BB IB in NYC. I see that the signing bonus is around 50k-57.5K and starting bases at BB IB are around 100k. I have heard that the bonus for first year associate post-MBA is around 100% and around 150% for a 3rd year associate. Are these numbers in the ballpark? Thanks.

@"viks0004" Sounds like a personal problem, there are thousands of data points on glassdoor for each different position with comp ranges and bonus ranges. You can also filter by years of experience in any given role... at any given company. Finance is relatively straightforward because there are positions you can only attain with an MBA.

If you can't get the numbers from that, I'd hardly think getting anecdotal evidence on an anonymous forum is going to give you a more accurate view of compensation. Unless you are in a compensation bracket similar to BigLaw where they damn near all follow Cravath's exact comp structure, at best you are going to get ranges. Did you have related experience prior to your MBA? Where are you looking for work (NYC, Chicago, SF)? Back at your old firm? What size of company? Which industry? Which group?
