Sell-side to Banking
Currently a sell-side equity research analyst at a boutique - anyone see any chance I can hop to banking right now given what's going on?
Any insight, advice?
Thanks.

From sell side ER to Ibanking/PE (Originally Posted: 05/21/2007)
Hi, I have just completed a year of sell side equity research as an associate at a tier 2 global full service bank focusing on heathcare. I plan to spend one more year here as I have promised. I honestly do not like sell side research anymore and want to make the transition into banking or private equity at the associate level or even as a third year analyst. However, I would prefer not to take the mba route because I don't believe in an mba education and don't want to waste 2 years in school. I have taken the GMAT and scored a decent 700, however, I don't know if my 2 years of work experience in ER by then would even be enough for me to get into a top 20 b-school.
For those who are in ER or know of anyone who has switched from ER to banking/pe, which firms tend to hire associates or third year analysts without an mba or ibanking experience? With just 2 years of ER under my belt, how good are my chances, even with hardcore networking?
Would becoming a summer associate be a possible route? (without an mba)
I hear that the only skillset that distinguishes ER from banking is deal execution. How much of an obstacle is that for ER guys? What other skillsets are we missing?
What can i do in the next year to increase my chances of reaching my goal? Thanks in advance for your help and I appreciate your advice and input.
