Should I Become President of my Fraternity?
I'm in the position where I have the chance to become president of my Fraternity. I've already been involved as treasurer and academic chair. Going to be a senior next year. Will adding president to a resume be that important or valuable? I'm interested in Commodities and/or energy trading and have relevant internship experience lined up for the summer. I also will be doing Quantitative Finance research my senior year. Should I focus my efforts on classes, research, GPA and applying to full time roles or take on the responsibility and risk(for those in fraternities they know what I'm talking about) that come with the territory of being the leader of this organization?
In addition I could possibly become president of my finance club. Honestly that role would be less stressful and less work however that might be a better choice career wise.
It sounds like you're already pretty involved. If I were you I would just focus on FT, research, and your classes. I don't really see the value add of being the president. A positive to this would be more free time during your senior year.
Only value add I see is I was "the guy" instead of one of the guys. Alpha wolf type stuff. Seems a little trader oriented.

I am the president of mine, got a ton of questions about it in my interviews, looks really good.

The people giving you shit probably weren't in a fraternity or in a leadership role. It sounds douchey but honestly a lot of guys on the street were in fraternities in college and understand the risk you take on as president. If you're at a school that's known for Greek life then people will respect the title and ask you about it. If you go to a school where Greek life is a joke and you don't actually do anything then no one will give a shit.
