Spring/Summer day programs?

What's the deal with those 2-5 day programs that some BBs have for frosh/soph? Are those at all useful? Is it more for just meeting people and networking?

i have heard they are pretty good for networking, and show yourself off a bit. I kinda get the feeling like it is a 3-5 day interview, if you do pretty well they can give you an offer
