Superbowl LV - Old Guard vs. New Guard

2021 Superbowl is coming up. It almost feels symbolic that the two QBs are literally the new face of NFL and the old.

BIG TIME generational match here. Who are you rooting for? Who do you think will prevail? Any thoughts on how the match will go?

Will New Englanders support Brady or feel betrayed by him?

Last but not least, should Brady just retire if he loses? In other words, when will people stop talking about Brady?

Just getting to the big stage again, for the millionth time, with this new garbage team proves that Brady is the G.O.A.T. And I'm the biggest 49ers fan alive and would have said Joe Montana up until a few years ago. Win or lose, Brady has nothing left to prove in my book.

EDIT: Brady obvious GOAT, nothing to prove, literal God.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

I get what youre saying but I wanna push back on that a bit because Brady won 3 super bowls in his first four years, not counting the true rookie year when he played in one game. Ignoring Patty Mo's first season in which he also only played one game, and assuming he wins this year and next year, that would put him on the exact same level, but absolutely not better than Brady overall. One could argue that Mahomes' first four years are statistically better, which they are, but that does not really account for differing playstyles and a differing reliance on the rushing attack. I would say if Pat can keep this going through 2027 with like a speculative 4-1 or better super bowl record then we can start the conversation, but even if he wins 3 straight, Tommy is still GOAT IMO.

That being said, I think the Chiefs will win.

The Bucks are not a garbage team. Gronk, Antonio Brown, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Leonard Fornette are all high caliber players. The defense was ranked 6th this year. Yes the team just became elite and that's mainly due to GM Jason Licht as well as Brady, however I would not call them garbage by any means.

Brady will lead them to win it. Mahomes is the up-and-coming and is on the path to becoming the best in the league, but Brady will prove that he is still the best. The last play of the 1st half against the Packers proves it. The guy is the GOAT.

Yeah from context I meant the year before / all the other years before. You could add all the other players, but with no Brady they are doubtful to even make the playoffs much less the Superbowl. Just my admittedly ill informed opinion.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

My team isn't in the superbowl, but I am a fan of both quarterbacks.

I think it would be cool to see Brady win it. Last year the Bucs had a losing record. Win that seventh ring for the Tampa Bay fans.

The Chiefs will probably be good for awhile. After this year it would be cool to see how many they could win. Andy Reid is an offensive genius.

I'm from Mass and I am completely rooting for Brady to make history and win number seven. The guy brought us six SB dubs. I was mad that he left but I will always love Tommy Terrific for all the fucking excitement and hype that the Patriots gave me during his time here. Even if he loses, it doesn't matter because he literally has nothing to prove in my opinion.

I was split between rooting for him/Brees in the Saints game because I have family in NoLa and I root for the Saints hard after the Pats, but honestly it was a win-win for me in that game. I do hope Alvin Kamara wins a super bowl some day tho. Fuckin love that guy.

I had the pleasure of having TB as our QB for the majority of my life, I am absolutely rooting for him to win this SB. The greatest satisfaction would be Brady winning this and forever crushing the argument that he is a system QB and that any other elite player in his position could have recreated the success he had in New England over the years. I don't understand the hate from a lot of New Englanders, the guy gave us 20 amazing years with 6 Lombardi trophies, how you can turn your back on the guy blows my mind.

That said, Mahomes is the real deal and it will be great to watch him develop over the course of his career, if I didn't fucking hate Andy Reid then I might actually root for those guys outside of this coming game.

Either way,  looking forward to an offensive battle this weekend.

Not sure why so many New Englanders believed that Brady betrayed them. It wasn't just his decision. There were a variety of factor. Belichick being the biggest one. NE was running into heavy salary cap problems as they wanted to keep Brady, but were unable to recruit top talent to support Brady. Belichick thought that if Brady left, the salary cap will open up and give them more opportunity. Ultimately Brady was like a son to Kraft, but I just think Belichick got tired of him a bit. It was an amicable split, but I am sure Brady would have stayed in NE if everything worked out.

I heard a sports analyst say something that stuck with me regarding this Super Bowl. He said that at the moment Brady is the GOAT and Mahomes is the only player who could conceivably pass him. As such, the result of this game could determine the GOAT either now or down the line. If Brady wins, he will have 7 rings plus a win in what will likely be Brady and Mahomes's only time facing each other in the Super Bowl. Winning this weekend would cement him as the GOAT since 7 rings is ridiculous and Mahomes will almost certainly not have a chance for redemption. However, if Mahomes wins, he will be much closer to being named the GOAT down the line if his current trajectory continues.

Honestly, I do not care who wins, but I will watch this really closely because in my mind it is quite literally history in the making. Two generational talent QBs with great supporting casts, with legacies on the line - it should be an amazing game.

I’m a fun guy. Obviously I love the game of basketball. I mean there’s more questions you have to ask me in order for me to tell you about myself. I'm not just gonna give you a whole spill... I mean, I don't even know where you're sitting at
