Switching out of trading
Just started two months ago at a BB trading role and I am thankful that I even have a job in this economy. I am doing a good job so far, my desk has great people and it seems a lot more stable than other desks. However, I feel as if the skills and knowledge I am and will be acquiring are too specific and while I am interested in the markets, I may be more interested in learning about how businesses are run/how an industry functions.
Furthermore, regulation is very daunting and I'm afraid that if I do get let go in the future, I will not have the skills/it may be too late to successfully transition into another fulfilling job. Should I consider a switch into banking/consulting/something more business oriented? Is it too early to rule out trading/start considering other options?
I was just in the same shoes as you, switched from trading to fixed income investment management. I switched after 6 months, as long as you have a good story and reason why you want to switch you will be fine.
