Transfer To A Different College or Stay?(Undergraduate)
I currently go to a non target that begins with a P known for engineering. I'm majoring in Mathematics + Computer Science looking to get into structured finance or trading preferably energy or equities.
Currently my schooling is free minus the cost of gas and food. So, when I come out of college I will be debt free ,but the trade off is "non target". The kind of firms I'm aiming for are not top tier (I'm being realistic). I do plan on applying to Financial Engineering programs after undergraduate if no job and that will not be free. So the question is if you were in my shoes what would you do?
Summary
3.8 GPA doubling in Comp Sci + Mathematics, 2nd year
Schooling is free
have extra curricular s + volunteering BS
low SAT scores
Career Goal Structured Finance or Trading
Thinking of xfering to Notre Dam, Michigan, etc. (prob have 50/50 chance)
Do you think it is worth the 40k+ a year ?

I don't think ND is worth it
I don't think ND is worth it because they don't let you transfer to the business school also I did not meet a single ND grad when I interned in NYC (I assume they all got placed in Chicago). I say transfer provided your can get into an actual target school.
"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."
It's a tough decision, but
It's a tough decision, but I'd stay where you are (I'm assuming it's Purdue). You wouldn't be trying to transfer into Ross right? Are you looking at UM's LSA?
I'd say apply to transfer and
I'd say apply to transfer and then make a decision once you hear back. You're clearly unsure, so don't rule anything out until you have to make a decision (i.e. you have an acceptance at Michigan and have to decide whether to take it).
Also, if you get in and decide not to switch, you'll never wonder "what if I had applied?"
One of those lights, slightly brighter than the rest, will be my wingtip passing over.
yea jrt336 would either be
yea jrt336
would either be math of cs i like economics ,but it just isn't for me at undergraduate level
I attend a top 50 non-target
I attend a top 50 non-target university, have a 3.6, and 2 internships at BB's (not FO) and great extracurricular activities, but still the BEST interviews I have gotten at BB's have been MO positions. I was able to muster exactly 1 MM FO interview for equity research. I have also been realistic and applied to smaller firms, but have not received any feedback yet. Also I forgot to mention, my goal is IBD or capital markets, so although they are different paths, I think my struggle illustrates a point.
I think the economy is to blame in my situation; if this was 06' I'm sure recruiting would be different. You fortunately have 2 more years, so it depends on your outlook of the economy I guess.
I am not going to say transfer, but I will say at the MINIMUM- submit the applications.
